Aerotecnica Missili & Spazio is the journal of the Italian Association of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIDAA)

Vol 96, No 4 (2017)

Prof. Angelo Miele was a giant of the scientific culture and, after his departure (on March, 19, 2016), AIDAA dedicated a session during the International Conference held in Palermo and Enna Universities, September 2017, to remember this great scientist; the session was chaired by Prof. Franco Giannessi, who succeeded to Angelo as editor of “Journal of Optimization, Theory and Applications” (JOTA).

Angelo was in contact with Italian institutions and universities all his life long; he also organized international workshops at the School of Mathematics at the E. Majorana Centre in Erice, Sicily, (Italy), directed by Prof. Giannessi, in 1992, 1999 and 2003; the book “Advanced Design Problems in Aerospace Engineering; Volume 1: Advanced Aerospace Systems” (A. Miele and A. Frediani (Eds), Plenum, 2003), collected some  remarkable papers presented by Angelo in 1999.

This issue of Aerotecnica M&S begins with a tribute from Prof. David Hull, a former student and a friend of Angelo.

As Editor in Chief of Aerotecnica, together with the editorial staff, we are  honored to dedicate this issue to Prof. Angelo Miele.
